Overtraining
In order to perform at an optimal level. you need to practice at an intense level. Many times, however, athletes train too hard and/or don't allow enough rest and recovery. This over training, if not modified quickly, can lead to irreversable performance deficits.
Physical Symptoms of Overtraining
- Increased Resting Heart Rate
- Increased Blood Pressure
- Decreased Performance
- Decreased appetite
- Nausea
- Insomnia
- Decreased strength
- Increased sugars in blood stream
- Training fatigue
- Lack of energy throughout the day
- Susceptible to infections
Recovering from Overtraining
- Decrease volume of training
- Decrease intensity of training
- Increase rest between bouts of exercise
- Cross-train-do some other fun activity
- Get a massage
- Ice sore and inflamed areas of your body
- Make sure you are finding balance in life
- See a registered dietition for tips on diet modification
- Stay hydrated
- Make sure you are getting enought sleep/rest
